Ms. Arellano

Welcome to My Kindergarten Spanish Classroom

My name is Vanessa Arellano and I would like to welcome you to Fred L. Wilson Elementary School and the Dual Language Program. Currently, I am in my 10th year of teaching. I have had the privilege to teach 9 years in bilingual schools and this is my second year at FLW.
I am from Lima, Peru. I moved last year to this country  to teach Spanish at FLW, we had a successful first year and I am looking forward for the following years teaching my students to become bilingual and experience the benefits of it.
I look forward to teaching Spanish to your child this year at Fred L. Wilson.  Please feel free to contact me by email.
College(s) Attended/Degrees Earned:
I earned my degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education/English as a Second Language, from Instituto Pedagogico Nacional Monterrico in Lima, Peru in 2009 and earned a Master's in Learning Dissabilities from the University of Champagnat in Lima in 2013.  I have more than ten years teaching English to my peruvian students and I have experience in second language acquisition, which is a wonderful process to be part of. At the beginning, they struggle with a new language but sooner they learn to be able to understand it and use it using their four skills.

Educational Philosophy/Vision:
My love for teaching a second language began when I was curious as a little girl. I always wanted to be able to speak other languages around the world. So when I was in middle school I was already teaching English to many children at home. Then, I joined university and became an English teacher, having the opportunity to teach in the best privates bilingual schools in my country. After that, my life changed when I came to teach Spanish in USA, it was an amazing experience watching my american students being able to speak, read, listen and write in Spanish. I am so proud of them and I am looking forward for the next generations to come. I love teaching Spanish and also sharing my culture from my home country Peru.
