The Spanish Language Immersion program will be accepting Kindergarten students into this highly desired magnet program this year. Students will learn their kindergarten curriculum in both English and Spanish. Students will spend one day with their English speaking teacher, then the next day they will learn with their Spanish speaking teacher. Students in this program will benefit from the combined knowledge of two instructors in two languages!
An additional grade level will be added each year as the kindergarten students are promoted to the first grade. This program will grow a grade level per year, until all grades, K-5, have students enrolled in the program.
Other schools that have implemented a Splash Language program have benefited from increased academic achievement by all students participating in this program. Students that participate in this program for all five years in elementary school will be able to take Spanish in the middle school and get high school credit for the course - an added bonus.
Global Arts Network Magnet
Students that are not part of the Splash Language Immersion program at Fred L. Wilson will participate in the Global Arts Network Magnet Program. Each grade level will focus on a country or continent. The culture and history of that country would be integrated into their traditional NC curriculum. Students that participate in this magnet will be exposed to global content to increase their awareness of the world around them.
Students that have been exposed to a global studies program have also benefited from increased academic growth and experience a high level of interest in their studies.
