Hello My Name Is...
Hi, My name is Melanie Prohoniak,
Degree and experience:
I am a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. I graduated in 2010 with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a teaching license in Birth-Kindergarten. I spent 5 years teaching for Asheboro City Schools. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with ACS. This is my second year at FLW. I have moved up to Kindergarten and am loving every minute of it.
I enjoy reading, going to movies and singing. But most of all, I love spending time with my family.
I believe that every child can learn. My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing and engaging environment for my students. I feel that students should be encouraged to do their best and enjoy their time at school.
Science: We will begin working on research projects using nonfiction texts.
Math: In math we will continue to work on our counting goals. We are working toward getting to 100! We will also work on story problems and addition and subtraction problems.
Reading: We will work on noticing the differences between fiction and nonfiction texts. We will look at nonfiction texts to learn about things and to do research projects in the future.
Writing: We will continue to work on writing opinion pieces. We will also continue to work on our writing conventions. At this point we have worked on capitalizing the first word, spaces between words and on stretching out the words that we write!
Social Studies: We will continue learning about community helpers.
